Protect Our Communities -
No More Fossil Fuels

On Tuesday, February 3rd, there was an explosion at the Delfin liquified natural gas (LNG) facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. It served as a stark reminder of the risks LNG facilities bring to Gulf South communities.

Fossil fuel pipelines pose significant risks due to leaks and explosions, exposing nearby residents to hazardous pollutants linked to severe health issues, including respiratory disorders and cancer.

Often, these pipelines are placed in marginalized neighborhoods, a product of systemic inequities that prioritize corporate profit over community safety. The cumulative effects of pollution exacerbate existing health disparities, leaving these communities more vulnerable to chronic illnesses.

People deserve to feel safe in their own neighborhoods, and that requires transparency, accountability, and putting community well-being ahead of fossil fuel expansion.

We demand accountability and real solutions from our elected and appointed leaders to stop this unnecessary expansion of LNG facilities in the Gulf South.

  • We call on Rep. Clay Higgins to denounce his support for the expansion of Delfin LNG, a facility that continues to bring harm to his constituents in Louisiana’s third district.

  • We urge the Louisiana State Police and the parish OHSEP hold a public after action briefing and publish a written after action summary with: incident timeline, what alerts were issued, who made those calls, what worked, what failed, and a corrective action list with deadlines.

  • We demand that the LEPC puts the Delfin incident on its next agenda and adopts upgrades.

  • We urge the LDEQ to deny permits related to air emissions and water usage, particularly when facing legal pressure regarding environmental justice impacts.

Use this form to send a letter to Rep. Clay Higgins and leadership at the LEPC, LDEQ, and the Louisiana State Police now!
