🌍 While Climate Week is taking place in New York, we can’t ignore a crucial transatlantic issue: the EU’s fossil gas addiction is harming frontline communities in the US.
🇪🇺 Despite its climate commitments, the EU continues to import large volumes of US fossil gas — much of it fracked using one of the most methane-intensive extraction methods. Meanwhile, frontline communities living near extraction and export sites bear the brunt, paying with their health and their lungs.
Under the recent EU–US trade deal, the EU has even committed to tripling its energy imports from the US❗️This risks fuelling more fracking, deepening fossil fuel dependency, and driving up methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas that harms both human health and the climate.
✊ Movements like the Vessel Project of Louisiana are fighting back, but they can’t stand alone. Europe must act too. The EU Methane Regulation is our chance to change course, cutting methane emissions both in house and in exporting countries.
What we need now is:
✅ Full implementation
✅ Protection from weakening attempts
✅ Coverage of all fossil fuel imports
